Susan Arentz, PhD, is a highly experienced naturopath specialising in women’s health and fertility, with a career spanning over 25 years. She earned her Bachelor of Naturopathy and further distinguished herself by conducting an honours clinical research project. During this time, Susan developed a passion for research, which led her to pursue a PhD.
Under the guidance of Professor Jason Abbott, Susan successfully completed her PhD in 2016. Her early research primarily focused on women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and chronic pelvic pain, exploring the clinical effectiveness and safety of naturopathy in these conditions.
In recent years, Susan has collaborated with both Australian and international experts to promote the integration of complementary medicine recommendations into evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and consumer fact sheets. Additionally, she has led educational and mentorship programs.
Susan’s expertise extends to diverse areas, and she has contributed to the synthesis of evidence for the use of zinc and honey in COVID-19 management.
Despite her professional commitments, Susan continues to serve as an Adjunct Research Fellow at Western Sydney University, acts as Editor for the Australian Journal of Herbal and Naturopathic Medicine, and holds a position as an elected board member of the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association.
Based in Sydney, Susan balances her career with her personal life, caring for her husband and family, which includes two beloved cats.
